Docfyer

Cloud-based Supplier Documentation Platform

Docfyer was formed at the beginning of 2019 under a Canadian tax number between 2 partners. I co-founded it with these partners to fulfill an existing problem for corporations with multiple suppliers that have various certifications for their products.

We interviewed with multiple employees inside different companies to discover the need for software that replaces spreadsheets and email on the process of collecting and managing the documentation needed from suppliers. The interviews were positive and corroborated by one of the partner's customers who already paid to develop a similar solution, which leads us to create Docfyer.

Docfyer is deployed on AWS and uses multiple services like EC2, ECR, ECS, S3, RDS, Route 53, Cloud Formation, SQS, and other external integrations like Postmark and MailLayerBox. It was developed over the course of a year using PHP 7.2, Angular 2, and Postgres. With multiple containers. Being nowadays fully covered by tests and being built and deployed automatically with CI/CD pipeline using Docker images sent to ECR and triggering Cloud Formation templates that update the ECS Service leading to a zero-downtime release and a horizontally scalable infrastructure.

We are currently on an MVP phase where we are trying to prove if the system is valid to scale up the investment. The first results showed that, even though we did deliver a user-friendly system that aggregates value to certain people, the market penetration is not easy for this sector. The cost versus benefit compared to the tools that people currently use is still to be asserted.
